Natural dyeing is both a science and an art with a depth of knowledge to learn. It can be overwhelming to figure out where to start. When I first began dyeing, I found it nearly impossible to get a good step by step guide on the internet. Everything I found told one step of the process, but skipped so much else. I would have to look up word after word just to try and figure out what the blog was talking about. It took so much time and many books, but I learned the process of natural dyeing.

To help you on your journey, I have created this infographic: The 5 Simple Steps of Natural Dyeing. This is an outline of the steps necessary to prepare your fabric, dye, and store your fabrics. Once you understand and practice these steps, you can start creating your own colorful fabrics. 

Once you understand these steps, you will be able to start natural dyeing on your own with plants and flowers foraged from your yard or from dye kits and suppliers. The opportunities for creativity are endless; just peek at my latest quilt I finished with all naturally dyed fabric.
